The brief, the idea and the craft

Brand

Mezzo (Italian for "half") is a money app for people whose life is split across two countries: send money home at the mid-market rate with the fee shown up front, spend abroad on an anodised metal card, and split a bill with friends in one tap. The palette is emerald #0B7D53 + guava #FF9DB8 on bone, set in Schibsted Grotesk. The mark is a coin cut in half, with one half dropped a step.

Brief

A bright, confident fintech promo whose hook is money already moving: phone UI, cards and notifications spilling out of the device, kinetic numbers that add up, one product-photography 3D card shot, and an end card with a CTA. 9:16 primary, plus a rebuilt 16:9.

Format

  • mezzo-promo-9x16.mp4: 1080×1920, 15.0 s, 30 fps (primary)
  • mezzo-promo-16x9.mp4: 1920×1080, 20.0 s, 30 fps. Rebuilt for landscape, not cropped: two-phone transfer, a landscape-only bank-comparison beat, and the card at landscape scale with type beside it.

What makes it work

  • The numbers are the story, and they reconcile. (1,240.00 − 4.96) × 6.2148 = 7,675.53; 186.40 ÷ 4 = 46.60; 7,675.53 − 7,475.22 = 200.31. Even the in-between amounts while typing are real conversions (€12 → R$ 74.27), and the two phones' clocks reflect the real 4-hour Porto–São Paulo offset on 23 Oct 2026.
  • The camera moves with the money. Every beat has a vector: the pull-out on the typed amount, the line lifting out of the sheet, the receipt thrown away from the phone, the card landing on the beat, the banner breaking the bezel.
  • The money shot is product photography, not a game asset. Brushed anodised metal with a milled silver edge, engraving that flashes as one highlight sweeps on the impact, and a real cast shadow on the brand field.
  • Built to be read on a phone. The UI is at 75 % of frame width in 9:16 and type sits at or above the floor in 16:9, checked on 390 px proxies.
  • Localised where it matters. Camila's app speaks English and Thiago's lock screen speaks Brazilian Portuguese.

Structure (9:16, timestamped)

TimeBeat
0.0–1.9Hook: tight on the keypad mid-gesture. €12 → €124 → €1,240 typed, and "Thiago gets" rolls digit by digit to R$ 7,675.53; the camera pulls out as the amount lands. "Send it home."
2.2–4.0Review sheet (fee 0.4 % = €4.96, mid-market 6.2148). The "Thiago gets" line lifts out of the sheet as its own card; the chip pulses.
4.0–7.0Send on the downbeat: the phone slides left while the card is thrown right and becomes the receipt (✓ Arrived in 6 s, 19:42). "Home in 6 seconds."
7.0–9.53D card: anodised guava aluminium turns ≈ 24° and lands on the 8.0 impact with a highlight flash along the brushed grain and the engraving. "Spend it anywhere." − €186.40 · Tasca Lúcia, Porto.
9.5–12.0Split: €186.40 ÷ 4 = €46.60. Request → three "Paid" checks pop 4 f apart; "Zainab paid you" breaks out of the phone. "Split it in one tap."
12.0–15.0End card: the guava field parts along a seam to emerald; the coin halves meet on the 12.5 accent and the right half drops its step; mezzo, "Send. Spend. Split.", "Get the app", with the metal card resting in depth.

16:9 adds: Thiago's phone in São Paulo (pt-BR lock screen, 15:42) receiving "Você recebeu R$ 7.675,53" as the money card flies across from Camila's phone (4.0–7.0), and "R$ 200.31 more than your bank." (7.0–11.0): Mezzo R$ 7,675.53 vs a typical bank's 3.0 % markup R$ 7,475.22, with the difference rolling into a chip on the beat.

Audio

Original score and SFX (Glint Studio, synthesized in-house): a 120 BPM A-major bed cut to the edit (send stab on 4.0, riser into the card cut, impact and clink on the landing, a dip under the paid pings, a logo accent on the coin split, the final hit at 14.5 / 19.5). Keypad taps, a directional transfer whoosh, a slide-in that keeps the money on Thiago's side, a marimba success (no cash register), notification pops and a split-request ping, each on the exact frame of its UI event. Mixed to −16.0 / −16.1 LUFS, true peak ≤ −1.5 dBTP.

Concept

Brand and data are fictional (Concept). Mezzo, Tasca Lúcia, Mercearia Avenida, all people (Camila and Thiago Duarte, Zainab Okonkwo, Jun Park, Bea Sandoval), accounts, references and figures were invented by Glint Studio for this portfolio piece. The exchange rate, fee and bank comparison are illustrative, and the numbers reconcile with each other.

Design, motion, code

Glint Studio. App UI rebuilt in React/SVG and rendered with Remotion 4 (no screen recordings, no stock or AI imagery). The 3D metal card is three.js via @remotion/three: geometry, PBR materials, canvas-drawn engraving and the studio lighting rig are all built in code. No HDRI and no downloaded textures or models.

Audio

Music & sound design: original, Glint Studio (synthesized in-house).

Third-party marks

None. The phone frame is the studio's own generic drawing (no Apple device art). The "Get the app" pill is drawn, not an App Store or Google Play badge. "Pix" appears only as the name of Brazil's public instant-payment rail, as UI text (no logo).
