Wayfold
App Store preview set
Three App Store previews, three hero gestures: a tap that plans, a drag that replans, a vote that decides.

The brief, the idea and the craft
Brand
Wayfold is a trip planner that turns the places you saved into walkable day plans. Tagline: "Saved places in. Day plans out." The mark is an accordion-folded map whose zigzag reads as a W. The palette is crimson #E1263C on warm map paper, with four day colours that always carry "Day N" text. The UI and captions use Figtree.
Brief
A buyer-ready App Store preview set: three 15–30 s portrait previews for one consumer app, following Apple's app-preview rules (in-app footage only, captions for muted autoplay, a strong first 3 s, a chosen poster frame, no prices or dates, subscription disclosed). Preview 1 is the overview, and previews 2 and 3 each go deep on one feature.
Format
- 886×1920, 30 fps (App Store 6.7"/6.9" class). H.264 High at L4.0, held at 10–12 Mbps (CBR-style). AAC-LC 256k stereo at 48 kHz.
- Lengths: P1 26.4 s · P2 24.0 s · P3 24.0 s.
- One original score per preview (100 BPM family, all-ages), plus in-app UI SFX on the exact frame of each touch. Loudness −16 LUFS, true peak ≤ −1 dBTP.
What makes it work
- The map is real. Every street is OpenStreetMap data, and every route is a computed walking path, so the times and distances add up (Day 1: 10 + 2 + 10 + 8 min = 30 min walking; castle 11:41 + 75 min + 3 min walk = lunch at 12:59).
- Three features, three hero gestures: a tap that plans, a drag that replans (and a guard that refuses a closed day), a vote that decides. Each preview proves one thing.
- It's built like an app, not an ad. Native iOS hierarchy (floating tab bar, sheets with grabbers, list rows, scroll-edge fade), haptic micro-bumps on every touch, and a status-bar clock that agrees with the UI.
- Muted-first. Captions carry the story with sound off. With sound on, every touch has a sound on its exact frame.

Structure
Preview 1: Overview, "Saved places in. Day plans out." (26.4 s)
| t | beat | caption |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0–2.4 | Saved pins rain onto a real Lisbon map. Tap Plan 4 days, and the pins snap into four coloured day routes drawn along real streets | Drop in places. Get a plan. |
| 2.4–7.2 | The sheet rises to the Day 1 list (times, walk legs, 1.9 km / 30 min). Tap Day 2: the map re-frames to Alfama & Graça | Every day, sorted by neighbourhood. |
| 7.2–12.0 | "Only Tue & Sat" chip on Feira da Ladra; banner "Jerónimos is closed Mondays, moved to Sun" | Opening hours, already handled. |
| 12.0–16.8 | Today tab: the blue dot walks toward Castelo de São Jorge, minutes count down, "Offline map ready" | Walking directions, even offline. |
| 16.8–21.0 | Group tab: Kenji adds Miradouro da Graça (the pin drops), Amara's vote takes the fado dinner 2 → 3 | Plan it with your whole crew. |
| 21.0–24.0 | Pull out to all four days, Belém to Graça: "Planned · 11.5 km on foot" | Four days, one tap. |
| 24.0–26.4 | Launch screen (in-app): icon, wordmark, tagline, subscription disclosure |
Preview 2: Auto-planning (24.0 s)
| t | beat | caption |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0–3.0 | Pace → Relaxed at 0.5 s (4 stops, 1.9 → 1.5 km), then → Packed at 1.8 s: Jardim do Torel inserts, rows re-flow with stagger, the route extends, km/min roll (→ 3.6 km) | Pick a pace. The days rebuild. |
| 3.0–7.2 | Packed settles, back to Balanced at 6.2 s | Your rhythm, your days. |
| 7.2–12.0 | Long-press São Pedro de Alcântara and drag it above Convento do Carmo. Legs and totals recompute | Drag a stop. Routes redo themselves. |
| 12.0–16.8 | Drag Jerónimos onto Mon → "Mon · Jerónimos is closed" → it springs back → Keep on Sun | Never walk up to a closed door. |
| 16.8–21.6 | A "1 h 10 min free near the castle" gap → lunch picks within 5 min → slotted in at 12:59 | Free time? Lunch, nearby. |
| 21.6–24.0 | Launch screen + "Planning is free. Offline maps require a Wayfold Plus subscription." |
Preview 3: Planning together (24.0 s)
| t | beat | caption |
|---|---|---|
| 0.0–3.5 | Kenji's idea slides in and its pin drops; Noor joins (header avatar + "Noor joined · invited by Amara"). Amara votes the fado dinner 2 → 3 (1.3 s), Noor votes Jardim do Torel 1 → 2 (1.7 s), and the fado dinner moves up to Going | One trip. Everyone's picks. / Vote it in, together. |
| 7.4–12.0 | Feira da Ladra thread: Julien and Noor's messages; Amara types "Sat 9:00. I'll grab coffee first." and sends | Decide here, not in five chats. |
| 12.0–16.8 | Day 3 from 11:15: Split the group. Noor + Kenji → Jardim Botânico Tropical, Amara + Julien → Torre de Belém. Meet back up 12:35 at Padrão dos Descobrimentos | Split up, then meet back up. |
| 16.8–21.6 | "Everyone's up to date": offline maps saved on three phones, and the map pulls out to all four days | Same plan on every phone. |
| 21.6–24.0 | Launch screen + "Group trips and offline maps require a Wayfold Plus subscription." |
Poster frames
App Store Connect defaults to 5.0 s, so every preview's 5.0 s frame is settled, captioned and on-brand, and that's the chosen poster: P1 5.0 s (Day 1 list + route, "Every day, sorted by neighbourhood."), P2 5.0 s (Packed day with Jardim do Torel inserted, "Your rhythm, your days."), P3 5.0 s (Ideas board after two votes, "Vote it in, together."). Apple app-preview compliance checklist
- In-app footage only. The screen is the frame: full-bleed app UI at native iOS layout (430×932 pt × 2.06 → 886×1920). No device frame, hands, fingers or people.
- Touch hotspots only (subtle tap discs and a drag disc) to show interaction.
- No zoom into the UI. Map zooms are the app's own map camera; the UI itself is never punched in.
- Straightforward transitions: hard cuts on bar lines and in-app navigation (sheets, tab switches). Nothing implies features the app lacks.
- Captions as overlays for muted autoplay: one system across all three (top zone, ink plate, Figtree 600/800 + crimson underline), ≤ 7 words, held ≥ words/2.5 + 0.5 s (min 1.8 s), never changing during a cut, never over the UI they describe (routes and pins stay ≥ 24 pt below the plate).
- No prices or currency, no dates or seasonal references (weekday chips like "Fri" only), no third-party trademarks (public landmarks; lunch spots described by street, not by brand). Map attribution "© OpenStreetMap" is shown as the licence requires.
- Subscription disclosed on every end frame ("… require a Wayfold Plus subscription").
- Strong first 3 s with the core value moving from frame 0 (pins raining / pace rebuild / votes popping).
- Poster frame chosen and delivered (5.0 s, see above).
- Spec: 886×1920, 30 fps, 15–30 s, H.264 High ≤ L4.0 at 10–12 Mbps, AAC 256k stereo 48 kHz, < 500 MB.
- Status bar drawn (not Apple assets), 9:41 by convention; in the Today scene it shows the real in-app time, so it agrees with "Arrive 11:41".

Audio
Three original beds (100 BPM, one family: kalimba / marimba / glock themes), each resolving on its preview's end frame (24.0 / 21.6 / 21.6 s). Original iOS-feeling UI sounds (tap, haptic thump, sheet, toggle, pin drop, drag slide, success) sit on the exact touch frame. Mixed so taps sit ~7 dB under the bed and the integrated loudness lands at −16 LUFS, TP ≤ −1 dBTP.

- Concept
The brand and its people are fictional (Concept). Wayfold, Wayfold Plus and the trip planners Amara Osei, Julien Marchetti, Noor Haddad and Kenji Watanabe were invented by Glint Studio for this portfolio piece. The places are real public landmarks and neighbourhoods of Lisbon. No business, operator or brand names are shown (the lunch picks are described by street, not by name).
